This is a decorative plate made by the atelier of Rorstrand, a long-established pottery manufacturer representing Northern Europe. This work has a large version, which is about twice the size of a small decorative plate . In addition to the line that produced mass-market products, Rorstrand had a separate line in which famous designers created artwork. This is in 1959 Art piece designed by Gunnar Nylund .

Gunnar Nylund was employed by Rorstrand until 1955, but after that he became independent and received requests from companies around the world as a freelance designer. This decorative plate is named Solros, which means "sunflower" in Swedish.

The overall structure is thick and solid, with transparent glaze covering the sunflower shapes. This is an idea that makes the flowers stand out even more when they reflect light. The glaze that has entered the grooves is very strong . Gunnar Nylund's initial signature GN is engraved on the back .

Gunnar Nylund

Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997)

Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997)

Swedish potter. Born in Paris. After receiving his primary education in Denmark and studying architecture in Finland, he trained in ceramics in Denmark. Initially he worked as a designer at Bing og Grendal in Denmark, but from 1931 to 1955 he worked at Rorstrand in Sweden. Many of Nylund's famous works were created during his Swedish period, and his style is particularly characterized by the use of natural glaze to decorate the vessels in mottled patterns. His style has an affinity with Japanese tableware, but in Scandinavia at the time, tableware was commonly dipped in glaze and fired, and Nylund's natural glaze was melted from high-temperature feldspar and colored the vessel. The method was novel.
