This large square plate features Mon Amie, a masterpiece by Marianne Westman, a key designer at Rörstrand. Mon Amie means "my love" in French. Reproductions of the plate are still available, but they are large and made in Indonesia.
This is a discontinued 19cm original Swedish vintage plate. It is perfect for use as a cake plate or side dish. The backstamp bears the VDN mark, an old quality assurance mark, indicating that it was produced between 1951 and 1973.
The main difference between the Mon Amis reproduction and the original is the base color. The reproduction has a pure white base, while the original has a more subdued off-white color. The blue color is also uniform and vibrant on the reproduction, while the original was hand-colored, so each piece has different shades, giving it an ultramarine-like depth.
While the reproductions are sometimes too white and blue, the vintage pieces are expressive and you can feel the breath of the artisan. The backstamp is also distinctive; the reproductions read "MON AMIE Marianne Westman Rörstrand," but the originals were made in Sweden, so the stamp always reads "SWEDEN." These pieces are made in Scandinavia about half a century ago, but the older they are, the more artistic and excellent they are as pieces.

As the company's signboard designer, he has created numerous works and brought the masterpiece Mon Amie series to the world. Monami is a masterpiece of Scandinavian design from the mid-20th century, known as "mid-century," and is still loved around the world, with reprints still being produced . Westman's works are characterized by many designs that are conscious of plants and free-spirited patterns that appear to be drawn freehand.
