Lisa Larsson Gustavsberg Blue Rooster (Tuppfågel) Ceramic Plate
Lisa Larsson Gustavsberg Blue Rooster (Tuppfågel) Ceramic Plate
This bird ceramic plate is part of the series Väggplattor (wall-mounted ceramic plates) designed by Lisa Larsson in 1966 for Gustavsberg. In addition to the line that produced mass-market products, Gustavsberg had a department called G-Studion, where famous designers such as Stig Lindberg and Lisa Larsson produced artwork. This is a work made in that atelier. Each piece is handmade and features a backstamp with Lisa Larson's name on the back.
The title is simply ``Rooster'' (tuppfågel). This work has multiple color variations, and this is a standard light blue ceramic plate. The ceramic plate has a gorgeous peacock-like appearance, and the tail feathers are decorated with red glaze. The cubist and modern design suggests that Lisa Larson, now in her mid-30s, was searching for new creations. The ceramic board is very thick and heavy overall, and weighs just under 3 kg. Many of Lisa Larson's ceramic plates from Gustavsberg are thin, but this one is about 3cm thick.
The Väggplattor series includes six types of birds: a left-facing bird, a turned-up bird, a pheasant, a cuckoo, a sandpiper, and a rooster.

■Lisa Larson (1931-)
He was born in the village of Härlunda, which has a population of about 500 people and is located in the Älmhult district of Kronoberg county in the Småland region of southern Sweden. When she was young, she aspired to be a clothing designer, but after enrolling at Gothenburg University of the Arts, she studied ceramics. One day, he was discovered by Stig Lindberg at a competition, and after a one-year trial period, he officially joined Gustavsberg as a designer. Shortly after, in 1955, he announced the Lilla zoo series, and in 1964 he devised the Afrika series, famous for its lion statues.
In addition to Gustavsberg, Lisa Larsson has also provided designs for Höganäs, domestic retail giant Åhléns, and German pottery manufacturer Rosenthal. After leaving Gustavsberg in 1979, he was active in various fields while continuing his creative activities freely, taking the position of a freelance artist under a voluntary contract with a company rather than an exclusive contract. In 1979 and 1981, he held solo exhibitions at the Seibu Department Store in Tokyo, and his solo exhibition in 1981 is said to have attracted 70,000 visitors.
