リンドベリのGスタジオから生まれた 古代技法ファイアンス焼きの逸品

This monument was created during Lisa Larson's Gustavsberg period. It is a very unique ceramic statue with multiple antenna-like protrusions arranged in a radial pattern.

The gold glaze in places gives it a strong presence. The indigo blue body accentuates the luster and shadows of the glaze, creating a three-dimensional effect that changes its appearance depending on the angle from which it is viewed.

A similar design to this work can also be seen in a monumental piece on permanent display at the Shigaraki Forest Museum in Japan. The exhibited piece is entitled "Tree of Life," and the composition of the vessel and the sculpture is presented as an image of life spreading like a tree.

Lisa Larson's Tree of Life
(The Tree of Life at the Shigaraki Royal Museum and the son of Lisa Larson, who supervised the exhibition)

Being displayed in a museum like this makes it clear that the work's design is not merely decorative, but conveys Lisa Larson's ceramic philosophy. Each branch and leaf growing from the large trunk symbolizes vitality.

This piece was created by Lisa in her prime during her time at Gustavsberg in the 1960s. At the time, she was creating candlesticks with a practical purpose in mind. Starting out as a practical piece, typical of Scandinavian pottery, it is thought that over time it took on a stronger meaning as an artistic object, eventually arriving at the "Tree of Life."

The bottom of this piece is signed by Lisa Larson in her own hand. It also features a hand signature made in Gustavsberg's studio, G Studio, which indicates that it was made as a one-of-a-kind piece by Gustavsberg. This serves as proof that it is an authentic piece.

This work and other Tree of Life sculptures have a fatal weakness: they have many protruding and overhanging parts, making them easily damaged. It is believed that several objects of the same type were created, but there are very few that remain in a complete piece like this one, with no chips or signs of repair. This makes this piece extremely valuable. It is a gem that allows you to keep the piece in its original state.

Lisa Larson (1931-2024)

A world-renowned Swedish ceramicist, he was born in Härlunda, a village of about 500 people in the Älmhult district of Kronoberg county in the Småland region in southern Sweden.

As a child, she aspired to be a fashion designer, but after enrolling at the Gothenburg Academy of Art, she studied ceramics. One day, she was discovered by Stig Lindberg at a competition, and after a one-year probationary period, she officially joined Gustavsberg as a designer. Shortly thereafter, in 1955, she released the Lilla Zoo series, and in 1964, she came up with the Afrika series, famous for its lion statues.

Lisa Larson has not only worked for Gustavsberg, but has also provided designs for Höganäs, the major domestic retailer Åhléns, and the German ceramic manufacturer Rosenthal. After leaving Gustavsberg in 1979, she became a freelance artist, working on a voluntary basis with companies, rather than as an exclusive contractor, and continued to work freely in various fields. In 1979 and 1981, she held solo exhibitions at Seibu Department Store in Tokyo, and the 1981 exhibition was visited by a total of 70,000 people.
