桜色のサンゴ礁が踊る ARABIA二大巨匠の晩年の傑作
This is a Kolari sauceboat, a legendary masterpiece from Arabia, a leading Finnish ceramics manufacturer. Kolari sauceboats are relatively rare.
The name of the series, Coralli, means "coral reef," and the cups feature dancing pink coral reminiscent of cherry blossom petals. The design was created by Raija Uosikkinen, known for her works such as Emilia and Kalevala. Uosikkinen retired from Arabia in 1986, so this work, designed in 1983, marks the final year of her career.
The design was handled by Ulla Procoppe, famous for Ruska and Valencia. Coralli follows the "S model" shape of the smash hit Ruska, designed in 1960. The S model is the collective name for the basic shape of the Ruska tableware series, including cups, plates, and pots.
Since the introduction of the Ruska S-Model, many Arabia products have adopted the Ruska form while changing the surface decoration. Ruska was designed in 1960, and Ulla Prokoppe passed away in 1968, so the release of the Coralli in 1983 shows that Ulla Prokoppe's formal design was still highly regarded for nearly 20 years after his death. The S-Model was also used in GOG and Esteri Tomura products such as Cosmos, Fractus, and Flora. Because the "same shape" continued to be used, it was called the S-Model, an abbreviation of Sama (which means "same" in Finnish).
Coralli is a masterpiece that catches the eye with its cherry blossom-like gorgeousness of pink coral. Decorator Raija Uosikkinen's style sometimes depicts things that do not exist in Scandinavia. Her representative work, Emilia, depicts the idyllic landscape of America, while her Ali series incorporates arabesque patterns from the Islamic world, which is unusual for Scandinavia. Coralli's pink coral does not grow in the Atlantic region where Scandinavia is located, and is only found in areas relatively close to the equator. Coralli, which incorporates a gorgeousness not found in Scandinavia into its designs, truly embodies the identity of Scandinavian tableware.
