It is a plate of the Majolica series produced in the 19th century by Gustavsberg, a representative Swedish pottery maker. Founded in 1826, Gustavsberg manufactured fixtures and ceramic bathtubs. The series of the same name also produces roll strands. The name of the series, Majolica, refers to the island of Majolica floating in the Mediterranean Sea, which served as a transit point for faience ware transported from Italy to various places. Although it is an Italian tableware, it came to be called Spanish majolica from the name of the transit place.

The plate is painted with a five-leafed maple leaf and a grape. Mallorca has a unique presence among 19th-century Swedish pottery, and is made with a sensibility that sets it apart from traditional Meissen-style pottery. The decoration is flashy, but you can feel the straightforward beauty that is similar to the later Scandinavian modern. The plate itself is quite thin and light. Please handle with care as it is old and easily damaged.
