Penetrated ARABIA HLA Hilkka-Liisa Ahola Teacup Blue
Penetrated ARABIA HLA Hilkka-Liisa Ahola Teacup Blue
This is a tea cup made at the Art Department of Finland's leading ceramic maker ARABIA. Designer Hilkka Liesa Ahola had her own atelier in the form of an in-house studio, separate from the production line for mass-produced products at ARABIA, and produced handmade works in collaboration with painters. Hilkka Lisa Ahora designed a series of plates called Kutamo , but this one is like a sister product. Blue and dark yellow color like a scale pattern surrounds the entire surface. The inside is covered with a thick blue glaze, and the saucer is also covered with a thick blue glaze.
The shape of the cup is straight and the mouth part is along the outside. It's shaped like a demitasse cup, but it's relatively large and holds about 250ml. The form follows the S model devised by Ulla Procoppe, known for Valencia.
■ Detailed specifications
Manufacturer: ARABIA Form Design: Ulla Procope Pattern Design: Hilkka-Liisa Ahola Country of Origin: Finland Age: 1960s Condition: Penetrated Cup and saucer are extremely beautiful items that have never been used. However, intrusion can be seen near the handle of the cup as shown in the photo. Penetration is a crack that runs through the glaze surface during firing in the manufacturing process, and is not a scratch or damage to the main body itself. It has passed the manufacturer's inspection. The dents on the top of the saucer are rough when separated from the potter's wheel called the bottom of the thread.

Ulla Procope
Ulla Procope (1921-1968)
Born in Helsinki. In 1948 , he graduated from the Faculty of Art and Design at Aalto University in Helsinki and joined Arabia Company. After that, he was in charge of design in the production department for 20 years, creating the Ruska series in 1960 and the Valencia series in 1961 . Ruska became the longest-running and most sold flagship product of Arabia's products, and the form of Ruska was called the S model , which became the prototype model for subsequent ARABIA tableware. Valencia is the last hand-painted ARABIA product. After suffering from cancer and retiring from active duty, Procope moved to Spain's Canary Islands, where he died at the age of 47 .
Hilkka-Liisa Ahola
Born in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. After working as a trainee at ARABIA in 1943, he moved to several design positions. He officially joined ARABIA in 1947, and over the next 27 years until 1974, he produced many atelier works featuring floral patterns and female figures known as HLA designs. Each of her works is hand-painted, so no two pieces are the same, and her work is characterized by a unique sense of color, with many of her works being dark brown in color, using blues, browns, and yellows in reduced brightness. She became famous for her Kukka (flower) series released in 1958, and the vases with hand-painted flowers were a big hit and continued to be produced until the 1970s. In 1974, ARABIA downsized its art department due to a financial crisis, and she also left ARABIA accordingly. Since then, he has turned his attention to making batik dyeing as a freelancer.
