ARABIA Valencia / Valencia teacup and saucer 2

■ Product introduction It is a tea cup and saucer of hand-painted tableware Valencia, which is synonymous with Arabia. Valencia has three types of demitasse cups, coffee cups, and tea cups, but this is the largest size tea cup.

The series name Valencia is the name of a port town in the southeastern part of Spain, and the deep cobalt blue color expresses the dull color of the Mediterranean sea and the strong sunlight. Valencia was designed by Ulla Procoppe in 1961 and has become a timeless masterpiece with the most antique fans among ARABIA products. Procoppe is a legendary designer who was also responsible for the design of the long-run product Ruska and the rare Flora. She died of illness in 1968 at the young age of 47, but she was recuperated in the Canary Islands in Spain, and it is transmitted that Procope loved the Spanish seaside throughout her life. After her death, Valencia was produced in Finland for over 40 years until 2002, just like the other series. Since then, it has not been reprinted, and the only ones currently available are those on the vintage market.

This was produced between 1961 and the 1970s, when the production started, because the hand signature on the back of the cup and saucer was handwritten. Valencia temporarily ceased production in the 1980s, but after the revival, it is stamped as ARABIA with a type stamp. Valencia, with its handwritten signature, is the oldest vintage piece. UP is the initials of Ulla Procoppe, and the initials of the painter are separated by slashes and signed "NS".

The surface of the saucer and the side of the cup have very slight scratches that cannot be seen in the photos, but they are both minor and are in extremely good condition with the original appearance. On the base of the cup, you can see the rough surface when it is cut off from the potter's wheel called the thread bottom. The discoloration on the hill is not dirt, but the exposed potter's clay.

Ulla Procoppe ( Ulla Procope , 1921-1968)

Born in Helsinki. After graduating from the Faculty of Art and Design at Aalto University in Helsinki in 1948, he joined Arabia. After that, I was in charge of design in the production department for 20 years, in 1960 Ruska series, 1961 Creates the Valencia series. Rusca is the flagship product with the longest running and highest sales volume among Arabian products. The Valencia series is the last hand-painted product from Arabia. After retiring from active duty due to cancer, Procope moved to the Canary Islands in Spain. He died there at the age of 47.
