This ceramic tile was fired at Tilghman pottery in Gothenburg in the south of Sweden. It depicts a deer and vegetation. The design was by Eibar Lang. The leaf part in the upper right corner has a deep recess carved into it and glaze has been poured in. The deer is not brown, but has a translucent glaze that looks like snow has fallen, which I think represents a deer in winter walking beside evergreen trees. At 25cm, it is relatively small for a Tilghman ceramic tile, making it just the right size for an ornament.

Tilghmann Pottery was founded in 1948 by Paul Harald Tilgmann and was a studio that mainly produced art pieces. At its peak in the 1950s and 1960s, more than 10 famous designers competed with each other to produce works. Each designer had their own theme, such as fruits, plants, or animals, but all of their works had in common the fact that they painted pictures with glaze on vertical ceramic panels, which shows that it was a well-organized studio. Tilghmann Pottery closed down in 1974 when its founder, Tilghmann, passed away. Lang's initials, EL, are engraved in the bottom right.
