Vintage Soup Turin from ARABIA's famous Paratiisi. The Paratiisi series, which means paradise in Finnish, was designed by Birger Kaipiainen in 1969 at Arabia. In 1972, a monochrome version of the same name series was also designed. It is said that there was an intention to reduce the cost of coloring in the background. Paratiisi was discontinued in 1974, but the series with the same name was reprinted in 1988.

However, since 1988, there has been a difference in backstamps even in Finnish natives, pansies are no longer drawn, and oven to safe and microwave safe are written in English around the Arabic mark. Currently, Paratiisi is manufactured in reprints, but all are made in Thailand.

This is a 1971 vintage thulin (soup warmer). The viola (pansy) logo is drawn on the back stamp, and it is the earliest vintage product manufactured when Kaipiainen was enrolled in ARABIA. Since the number of soup turins is small, the extra-large turins with viola logos can be said to be phantom items with antique value. The "5 - 71" on the backstamp indicates the month and year of manufacture.

Manufacturer: ARABIA
designer: Birger Kaipiainen
Age: May 1971
Country of Origin: Finland
Condition: ★★★★☆ (4.5: very good condition)
Overall, it is a very beautiful product with no feeling of use. There is a slight thread on the inner bottom of Turin. In addition, black spots and threads generated in the manufacturing process can be seen slightly on the hills.

There is a hairline under the glaze at the base of the round knob on the lid. It's not a crack, it's something that happens because the knob part is added later in the manufacturing process. In addition, there are about 3 thin and teased places on the return part of the lid. On the painted part on the side of the main body, there is a very slight thin thread on each apple and viola.

■ About Birger Kaipiainen

Birger Kaipiainen

Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988 )

Born in Pori, southwestern Finland, on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia. Finland's leading designer, known as the "King of Decorators". Although his family moved to Helsinki when he was young, Kaipiainen spends each summer in a homestay in the Russian town of Sortavala. The sense of nature and artistry nurtured there will influence him for the rest of his life. When Kaipiainen was young, he suffered from polio, which left him walking with a cane for the rest of his life. He was unable to turn a potter's wheel on his own due to a disability in one hand, but it is said that this actually served as an opportunity for him to hone his artistic sense.

Kaipiainen graduated from Aalto University, Finland's premier art university, and joined ARABIA in 1937. From 1954, he also transferred to Rorstrand in Sweden for four years. In the heyday of simple and unadorned Nordic modern art, Kaipiainen's designs are rich in decorativeness and are characterized by detailed depictions drawn to every corner. He has built a unique worldview that stands out from the mainstream of the times, designing Paratish in 1969, Apia in 1970, and Sunnuntai in 1971. These are still the reprinted editions of the ARABIA brand and are the flagship products.
