Unikko-patterned cup and saucer sold exclusively in 2001 to commemorate Marimekko's 50th anniversary. Unikko is the Finnish word for poppy or poppy. Designer Maija Isola invented the Unikko pattern in 1965, which has become Marimekko's signature design. 2001 marked the 50th anniversary of the company and also the year of Maya Isola's death. This cup, which was sold exclusively in 2001, is also the last Unikko pattern manufactured at Marimekko's Finnish factory. Currently, Marimekko has moved its production base to Thailand in Southeast Asia, and the number of vintage models manufactured at its own factory is decreasing.
