This is a ceramic plate produced by a pottery called Michael Andersen & Son on the island of Bornholm, Denmark. Bornholm is a Danish enclave, a small island in the Baltic Sea surrounded by Sweden, Germany and Poland. It is also known as the "Jewel of the Baltic Sea" due to its scenic beauty. Bornholm was originally an island with a thriving handicraft industry, and Mikkel Annasen & Son is a pottery studio with a long history, founded in the 1880s and continuing to the present day.

This ceramic plate depicts two girls with parasols and herrings in their hands. It is like a big catch prayer in Japan, and depicts the richness of Bornholm's fishing industry. It is an extremely large and heavy porcelain plate with a vertical width of more than 40 cm, and is the largest porcelain plate produced by Mikel Annasen & Son.

The designer is Marianne Starck, who made the company a global manufacturer of the 20th century. Starck was a designer from Germany who worked for a long period from 1955 to 1993, and especially liked using the motif of girls. The light blue glaze is vivid, and the mottled gradation gives depth to the ceramic plate. Her initials, MS, are engraved on the back.

■ Detailed specifications

Manufacturer: Michael Andersen & Son / Mikel Annasen & Son Designer: Marianne Starck / Marianne Starck Age: 1970s (estimated)
Country of Origin: Denmark Condition: ★★★★☆ (4.5: Extremely Good Condition)
It is a very beautiful product with no damage to mention. The holes on the back are for inserting nails etc. Since there is no feeling of use in the nail hole, it is a dead stock item that has been stored without being used at all. It will be the kiln-burning mark at the time of making chake that can be seen on the back. There is a slight scratch on the back with a storage card, but it is a ceramic plate in very good condition with almost mint condition that retains the original condition.
