This is a vintage bowl from the classic series Bersa from the famous Swedish kiln Gustavsberg. The designer is Swedish master Stig Lindberg. Lindberg created this leaf design in 1961. Bersa (Berså; besho, bell show) means an arbour, and is a space set up to take a rest in a corner of a park. In Scandinavia, where there are many winter days, it has a warm design that allows you to feel the fresh greenery.

It is no exaggeration to say that half of the year in Northern Europe is winter. Not only is it extremely cold, but in winter there are only four to five hours of sunshine. The characteristic of Scandinavian tableware is that it is full of designs that make you feel warm even on such a winter day. The lush green of the leaves is used to bring fresh green color to the dining table.

Versa also has a reprinted version of the bowl, but the reprinted version has a lighter green color and luster than the vintage version. The characteristics of vintage are the vivid green color and the beauty of the back stamp. Also, cylindrical bowls are only available in vintage, and reprints are only bowl-shaped. In addition, the reprint version has no decoration on the outside, and the leaf pattern is drawn only on the inside.

About Stig Lindberg

Stig Lindberg (1916-1982)

Lindberg was born in Umeå, a central city in northern Sweden, and studied painting at the Konstfack art school in Stockholm. In 1937, he joined Gustavsberg and studied under his teacher, Wilhelm Koge, and 12 years later, in 1949, he succeeded Koge as the company's art director. Since then, Lindberg has produced numerous works as a flag bearer of Swedish modernism in the middle of the 20th century. The Gustavsberg workshop in the era when Lindberg was active has reached its heyday, and even now the works of that time are recognized as works of the golden age called "mid-century" and have high value. Lindberg's studio was called G-Studion, and young painters showed their skills. Lindberg retired in 1980 and opened a workshop in Italy where he retired, but died there two years later.
