ARABIA Juhannus Trio
ARABIA Juhannus Trio
A trio of coffee cups, saucers, and cake plates from the Juhannus series by Arabia, a leading Finnish tableware manufacturer. The coffee cup will be as small as an espresso cup. Juhannus is a Finnish word that means "the time of the summer solstice", and it is the season called midsummer in Northern Europe. In Northern Europe, the sun only lasts a few hours in the winter, but on the other hand, during the midsummer season, the sun shines for about 20 hours a day. It is the best season of the year in Scandinavia as it is cool and not too hot.
It is a detailed decoration printed carefully by silk screen printing, and the rose that blooms at the time of the summer solstice called Midsummer Rose is drawn. This variety is usually called Rosa spinosissima. Originally, the colors were exaggerated to add black-brown thorns, but the red thorns are also drawn to emphasize that this white flower is a rose. The designer is Laija Uosikkinen, one of the legendary designers of ARABIA, known for Emilia, Kalevala, and Ali. Such highly realistic decorations are relatively rare, as many of her designs are deformed pointillism and geometric patterns. Since the Juhannus series itself was a short production period of 4 years, it is highly rare and not often available in vintage.
