ARABIA Fiesta tea cup and saucer with translation
ARABIA Fiesta tea cup and saucer with translation
ARABIA's large hand painted tableware fiesta. The designer is Ulla Procoppe, who is famous for the masterpiece Valencia. Procoppe designed Valencia in 1961, but this Fiesta was designed in 1960, the previous year. Both are hand-painted tableware based on cobalt blue, and the Fiesta is a prototype model of the big hit Valencia. Ura Procoppe is a legendary designer of ARABIA, who also designed the long-running product Ruska and the now rare Flora.
The series name Fiesta means "festival" or "celebration" in Spanish. Wheel-shaped circles are drawn on the entire surface as if they are dancing in large and small lines, and it is interesting that the festivals of Spain, the country of passion, are depicted in cobalt blue instead of red or yellow. Similar to Valencia, the dull blue expresses the strong sunlight pointing towards the Mediterranean Sea. Procoppe rarely incorporated figurative motifs into his designs. Her representative works such as Valencia, Ruiyah, and Pluppriijenka have the characteristics of Impressionist painting, leaving the interpretation of what is depicted to the viewer.
Procoppe died in 1968 at the age of 47. The place of recuperation was the Canary Islands in Spain, and it is transmitted that she loved Spain and the Mediterranean seaside throughout her life. The UP on the bottom of the cup is the initials of Ura Procoppe, and the painter's initials are signed on the right side separated by slashes.
