Rorstrand Mimosa Teapot
Rorstrand Mimosa Teapot
This is a rare series of teapots called Mimosa made around the 1960s by Rorstrand, a long-established Swedish tableware maker.
Mimosa follows Marianne Westman's masterpiece Mon Amie's A model form. Mimosa was developed as a series of tableware such as teacups, creamers, sugar bowls, teapots and plates. However, for some unknown reason, the Mimosa series was never mass-produced.
In the background, Monami was a big hit, and I think that there is a reason why it was not so much considered as the same type of work with different manufacturing methods. Monami is a manufacturing method that re-fires after painting the flowers with blue glaze, but mimosa is re-fired after pasting floral transfer paper. The manufacturing process is also slightly different, so I'm guessing it wasn't made on the same production line as the blockbuster.
The designer is believed to be Marianne Westman, but it is not certain whether she was responsible for the design of the mimosa. Mimosa usually has yellow flowers, but it is interesting that it is depicted in black and white. One of the characteristics of Scandinavian tableware is that it expresses beauty with a single color scheme.
