This ceramic plate was fired at a kiln called Tilgman in Gothenburg, southern Sweden. A flower vase shaped like a huge sake bottle. This is a rare vase with an unglazed pottery surface and a glaze inside. Glaze is waterproof, but it is usually applied to the outside instead of the inside to prevent water from leaking out. This flower vase expresses roughness by intentionally fluffing the surface during the molding process before putting into the kiln.

Tilgmann Kiln was founded in 1948 by Paul Harald Tilgmann as a studio that mainly produced art pieces. In the 1950s and 1960s at its peak, more than 10 famous designers competed to present their works. The Tilgman Kiln was closed in 1974 after the death of the founder, Tilgman.
