Rare Lisa Larson Freelance Work Girl Picking Flowers
Rare Lisa Larson Freelance Work Girl Picking Flowers
This is a statue of a girl created by Lisa Larson in the 1980s. It depicts a girl wearing a floral garland squatting and picking flowers. Lisa Larson created this work in her own studio when she was a freelancer.
The cheerful expression is unusually realistic for Lisa Larson's work, and the texture of the slightly large torso is very similar to the ABC Girls series from the Gustavsberg period. The dress is made of flower petals, and the flowers in the outstretched hand look as if they are being picked or offered.
This work was probably produced in small quantities around 1985. After Lisa Larson left Gustavsberg in 1980, she established her own studio in Ugglevägen, a suburb of Stockholm. The studio was the predecessor of Keramikstudion Gustavsberg (K Studio), which she would later return to and found.
The works created during this time are characterized by Lisa's signature "Atelier", which means they are atelier works. They are not Gustavsberg products, nor K Studio products, but works created during the period when Lisa Larson was completely freelance.
At the time, Lisa Larson was receiving numerous production requests from companies around the world, so she had little time for her own creative endeavors. This piece was created in her spare time. It is an extremely rare piece among the many Lisa Larson works, as it has not been catalogued and has not been resold, making it almost completely unavailable on the market.

Lisa Larson
Lisa Larson (1931-2024)
A world-renowned Swedish ceramicist, he was born in Härlunda, a village of about 500 people in the Älmhult district of Kronoberg county in the Småland region in southern Sweden.
As a child, she aspired to be a fashion designer, but after enrolling at the Gothenburg Academy of Art, she studied ceramics. One day, she was discovered by Stig Lindberg at a competition, and after a one-year probationary period, she officially joined Gustavsberg as a designer. Shortly thereafter, in 1955, she released the Lilla Zoo series, and in 1964, she came up with the Afrika series, famous for its lion statues.
Lisa Larson has not only worked for Gustavsberg, but has also provided designs for Höganäs, the major domestic retailer Åhléns, and the German ceramic manufacturer Rosenthal. After leaving Gustavsberg in 1979, she became a freelance artist, working on a voluntary basis with companies, rather than as an exclusive contractor, and continued to work freely in various fields. In 1979 and 1981, she held solo exhibitions at Seibu Department Store in Tokyo, and the 1981 exhibition was visited by a total of 70,000 people.
