This floral relief ceramic tile was created by Lisa Larson in Gustavsberg. It features deep cobalt flowers, pale white glazed petals, amber leaves, and small blue dots resembling berries. While the motif is delicate, the relief's undulations and the shadows created by the pools of glaze give the entire piece a sculptural volume. Rather than a flat painting, this ceramic tile depicts a floral landscape with a three-dimensional feel that is almost tangible.
The blue is not a single color, but rather a multi-layered composition of light and shade, with the granular dots in the center and the white edging of the petals catching the light and changing their appearance. The white glaze has a soft translucency, while the amber-colored leaves reveal a unique pattern created by the firing process. The restrained color scheme, typical of Scandinavia, is packed with Lisa Larson's playfulness and decorativeness, and when hung on the wall, it has enough presence to become the focal point of any space. We also recommend propping it up on a shelf and enjoying it as a seasonal object.
The signature LISA L, indicating that it was created by Lisa Larson, can be seen in the lower right corner of the front surface, and wall hanging hardware is included on the back.
The quality of the glaze and the texture of the surface are very similar to Lisa Larson's " Lion in a Cage (Limited to 100 pieces )" and " Fish Ceramic Tile (Limited to 150 pieces )." Therefore, it is thought to have been produced around the same time, around 1963. This piece does not have a serial number engraved on it, but as it is rare to see it on the vintage market, it is likely to be a ceramic tile produced in a limited run of around 100 pieces.

Lisa Larson

Lisa Larson (1931-2024)
A world-renowned Swedish ceramicist, he was born in Härlunda, a village of about 500 people in the Älmhult district of Kronoberg county in the Småland region in southern Sweden.
As a child, she aspired to be a fashion designer, but after enrolling at the Gothenburg Academy of Art, she studied ceramics. One day, she was discovered by Stig Lindberg at a competition, and after a one-year probationary period, she officially joined Gustavsberg as a designer. Shortly thereafter, in 1955, she released the Lilla Zoo series, and in 1964, she came up with the Afrika series, famous for its lion statues.
Lisa Larson has not only worked for Gustavsberg, but has also provided designs for Höganäs, the major domestic retailer Åhléns, and the German ceramic manufacturer Rosenthal. After leaving Gustavsberg in 1979, she became a freelance artist, working on a voluntary basis with companies, rather than as an exclusive contractor, and continued to work freely in various fields. In 1979 and 1981, she held solo exhibitions at Seibu Department Store in Tokyo, and the 1981 exhibition was visited by a total of 70,000 people.
