This is a Swedish folk craft item, a Dala horse. It is a wooden statue, also called a Dala horse. It is a traditional craft item from the Dalarna region in central Sweden, and refers to wooden horse statues that are mainly colored red or blue. It was originally a toy for children to make around the fireplace in winter, but it eventually became a major craft item and a specialty of the Dalarna region.
This is an extremely large piece, about three times the size of a typical Dala horse. Judging from the texture, I think it is from around the 1960s. The small Dala horse in the photo is of a typical size and is for size comparison, not an accessory.
