This is a trio of teacups, saucers, and plates from a rare series called Mimosa, produced around the 1960s by Rörstrand, a long-established Swedish tableware manufacturer.
Mimosa follows the form called the A model of Marianne Westman's masterpiece Mon Amie. Mimosa was developed as a series of tableware including teacups, creamers, sugar bowls, teapots, and plates. However, for some unknown reason, this work was never mass-produced.
I think the reason behind this is that Monami was a big hit, and that it was not given much attention as a product of the same type that was manufactured using a different method. Monami is made by painting the flowers with a blue glaze and then re-firing to fix it, but this Mimosa is made by pasting floral pattern transfer paper and re-firing. Both cups are made from unglazed cups called the A model, but because the manufacturing process is slightly different, it seems that they could not have been made on the same production line. I think that because most of the A model's inventory was allocated to the blockbuster hit Mon Ami, less of it was allocated to Mimosa.
The designer is believed to be Marianne Westman. Mimosa usually has yellow flowers, but what makes it interesting is that it is depicted in black and white. One of the characteristics of Scandinavian tableware is that it expresses beauty with a monochromatic color scheme. This is one of Rorstrand's fantastic works produced around the 1960s.
