This is a trio set of a teacup, saucer, and plate from the rare Mimosa series, produced around the 1960s by Rörstrand, a long-established Swedish tableware manufacturer.

Mimosa follows the form of Marianne Westman's masterpiece Mon Amie, called the A model. Mimosa was developed as a series of tableware including teacups, creamers, sugar bowls, teapots, and plates. However, for some reason, this work was never mass-produced.

The reason behind this may be that Monami was a huge hit, and so this work of the same model, which is made using a different manufacturing method, was not given much attention. Monami is made by painting flower petals with a blue glaze and then re-firing them to make the color stick, but this Mimosa work is made by attaching a floral transfer paper and then re-firing it. Both are made by adding details to unglazed cups called Model A, but since the manufacturing processes are slightly different, it seems that they could not have been made on the same production line. I think that because a lot of Model A stock was allocated to the huge hit Monami, not much was allocated to Mimosa.

The designer is thought to be Marianne Westman. Mimosa usually has yellow flowers, but it is interesting that it is depicted in black and white. One of the characteristics of Scandinavian tableware is that it expresses beauty with a monochromatic color scheme. This is one of Rörstrand's legendary works produced around the 1960s.

Born in the Dalarna region of central Sweden, known for Dalarna horses. In 1950, at the age of 22, he joined Rorstrand as a designer and remained there for 21 years until 1971. As the company's signboard designer, he has created numerous works and brought the masterpiece Mon Amie series to the world. Monami is a masterpiece of Scandinavian design from the mid-20th century, known as "mid-century," and is still loved around the world, with reprints still being produced . Westman's works are characterized by many designs that are conscious of plants and free-spirited patterns that appear to be drawn freehand.
