Ceramic plate of Tilgman kiln "Sun and snail"
Ceramic plate of Tilgman kiln "Sun and snail"
This ceramic plate was fired at a kiln called Tilgman in Gothenburg, southern Sweden. The sun shining brilliantly on the upper left and a snail in the shadow of the grass are drawn. The snail is drawn as big as the sun, and the orange color of the glaze is rich and contrasts with the green color. Overall, it is thicker than other Tilgman porcelain plates and is elaborately made with glaze on the entire surface.
Tilgmann Kiln was founded in 1948 by Paul Harald Tilgmann as a studio that mainly produced art pieces. In the 1950s and 1960s at its peak, more than 10 famous designers competed to present their works. Each designer had their own themes, such as fruits, plants, and animals, but all of them had in common that they drew pictures with glaze on vertically long porcelain plates. I can hear you. The Tilgman Kiln was closed in 1974 after the death of the founder, Tilgman.
