This is a vintage square plate from the Prunus series from the famous Swedish kiln Gustavsberg. The Prunus series includes reprints of egg cups, coffee cups, etc., but this square plate has no reprints and is only available as vintage.
The Prunus series is based on the LL model designed in the middle of the 20th century, known as the mid-century. This is the name of the original type of plain pottery, and each series, such as Prunus and Versa, was created by changing the type of transfer paper that was pressed onto the surface.
The series name, Prunus, means plum ("plum" in Japanese), and the plum with its blue fruit is depicted in a circle. The main difference between the vintage and reprint versions is that the vintage backstamp features a large plum. The back stamp of the reprint version is an anchor symbol. In addition, the vintage version's plum blue color is distinctive.
This item is 40cm long and was designed as a platter for parties. It was the largest Gustavsberg plate ever sold, and production was limited. This is a versatile item that can be used as a serving tray or a regular square plate.
