Rare Lisa Larson Limited to 950 pieces Svan ceramic plate
Rare Lisa Larson Limited to 950 pieces Svan ceramic plate
This swan ceramic plate was produced by Lisa Larson at Gustavsberg from 1978 to 1984 in a limited edition of 950 pieces. It is a heavy ceramic plate with a length of over 30 cm and a weight of over 3 kg. It is used as a pictorial decoration, and rather than as a focal point in the interior, it is a ceramic board that has an impact and can be placed in the center of a room. The lower half of the glaze is covered with a transparent glaze, allowing you to enjoy the different reflections of light on the top and bottom.
In addition to the line that produced mass-market products, Gustavsberg had a department called G-Studion, where famous designers such as Stig Lindberg and Lisa Larsson produced artwork. This is a work made in that atelier. Each piece is handmade and the back is signed by Lisa Larson and engraved GUSTAVSBERG SWEDEN. The bottom right corner is signed with Lisa Larson's hand sign, indicating that the item was inspected by her.
■Detailed specifications
Manufacturer: Gustavsberg
Designer: Lisa Larson / Lisa Larson
Series name: Väggplattor / Ceramic plate
Title: Svan / Swan
Year: 1978-1984
Condition: ★★★★☆ (4.5: Very good condition)
It is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips and remains in its original condition. The purchaser's signature can be seen faintly at the bottom center of the back. In Scandinavia, the origin of the item at the time of purchase is often written on the back of the ceramic plate, and I believe this is a trace of that. The round burnt marks around the wall hanging metal fittings are the remains of the supports during manufacturing. These marks are left behind because the pottery is fired in a kiln on a cylindrical support so that the fire circulates on the back side of the pottery plate.
There are some scratches on the back, but I think they are caused by the manufacturing process because the soil color is the same as the post marks. The serial number is hidden as a consideration for those who collect it. If you would like to know the number, please contact us via email.

Lisa Larson
Lisa Larson (1931-2024)
A world-renowned Swedish ceramicist, he was born in Härlunda, a village of about 500 people in the Älmhult district of Kronoberg county in the Småland region in southern Sweden.
As a child, she aspired to be a fashion designer, but after enrolling at the Gothenburg Academy of Art, she studied ceramics. One day, she was discovered by Stig Lindberg at a competition, and after a one-year probationary period, she officially joined Gustavsberg as a designer. Shortly thereafter, in 1955, she released the Lilla Zoo series, and in 1964, she came up with the Afrika series, famous for its lion statues.
Lisa Larson has not only worked for Gustavsberg, but has also provided designs for Höganäs, the major domestic retailer Åhléns, and the German ceramic manufacturer Rosenthal. After leaving Gustavsberg in 1979, she became a freelance artist, working on a voluntary basis with companies, rather than as an exclusive contractor, and continued to work freely in various fields. In 1979 and 1981, she held solo exhibitions at Seibu Department Store in Tokyo, and the 1981 exhibition was visited by a total of 70,000 people.
