A vintage coffee cup from Gustavsberg, a famous kiln in Sweden. Gustavsberg has produced famous tableware with two elements: pattern and color scheme. This product Arena was created by Stig Lindberg, one of the company's representative designers, and is finished with a simple and vivid color scheme. Arena means "Amphitheatre" in Rome, and the roundness of the plate has the reproducibility of an arena.

Lindberg tableware designed around the same time includes a series named after a town in Tuscany, Italy called Siena. Stig Lindberg moved to Italy in his later years, but the design tells how his feelings were for Italy.

Although it is an old series manufactured from 1973 to 1978, it is a highly functional item that has excellent heat resistance and is compatible with dishwashers. This is the size of a small coffee cup.

About Stig Lindberg

Stig Lindberg (1916-1982)

Lindberg was born in Umeå, a central city in northern Sweden, and studied painting at the Konstfack art school in Stockholm. In 1937, he joined Gustavsberg and studied under his teacher, Wilhelm Koge, and 12 years later, in 1949, he succeeded Koge as the company's art director. Since then, Lindberg has produced numerous works as a flag bearer of Swedish modernism in the middle of the 20th century. The Gustavsberg workshop in the era when Lindberg was active has reached its heyday, and even now the works of that time are recognized as works of the golden age called "mid-century" and have high value. Lindberg's studio was called G-Studion, and young painters showed their skills. Lindberg retired in 1980 and opened a workshop in Italy where he retired, but died there two years later.
