This is a masterpiece Crocus bowl from ARABIA, a leading tableware manufacturer in Finland. The Crocus series name comes from a type of iris flower. The design was done by Esteri Tomura, known for Flora, Valm and Botanica, and a specialist in incorporating natural flowers into designs.
The Crocus series comes in three versions: black and white, color, and black and white with gray rim, and this is the color version. Crocus was produced for only two years, from 1978 to 1979. Reproductions have been sold in recent years, but they are slightly softer in shape or have shapes that did not exist in the original, so there are certain differences from the vintage. This bowl has also been reproduced in a shallow round shape, but the sharpness of the lines and the vividness of the colors are superior in the vintage version. Vintage Crocus items are becoming rarer every year due to the short period of production.

Tomura, who created masterpieces despite his physical handicaps, has similarities with Birger Kaipiainen, who designed the timeless masterpiece Paratissi despite suffering from polio.
