This Crocus bowl is a masterpiece from ARABIA, a leading Finnish tableware manufacturer. The name Crocus comes from a type of iris flower. The design was created by Esteri Tomura, known for his Flora, Valm, and Botanica collections, and his expertise in incorporating natural flowers into his designs.
The Crocus series comes in three versions: black and white, color, and black and white with a gray rim. This is the color version. Crocus was produced for only two years, from 1978 to 1979. Reproductions have been released in recent years, but they often have softer forms or are reproductions of shapes not found in the originals, so they differ from the vintage versions to a certain extent. This bowl has also been reproduced in a shallow, round shape, but the sharpness of the lines and vividness of the colors make the vintage version superior. Vintage Crocus pieces are becoming increasingly rare due to their short production period.
