This is a vintage plate from Kastehelmi, the classic Finnish glassware. It is a 17cm plate that is easy to handle. The blue is still reproduced today under the name Sea Blue, but there is a clear difference in the color, and the vintage version has a unique vividness and depth to the blue.
The series name Kastehelmi means "dew" or "dewdrop" in Finnish. Kastehelmi was designed in 1964 by Oiva Toikka, who is considered the "king" of glass artists.
The vintage plates are characterized by their plump, three-dimensional surface and the fineness of each individual grain. They are as beautiful as pearls. The Kastehelmi reproductions have a flat , small, and beautiful design , and the depth of the glass when held up to the light is lost. This 14cm plate has not been reproduced, so it can only be found as a vintage item.
The manufacturer was originally Nuutajärvi, the oldest glass factory in Finland, which later became a joint venture with ARABIA, and the current reproductions are produced under the Iittala umbrella. This product is an old piece, and the unique transparency of vintage pieces is no longer available.

He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Kai Frank Design Award and the Prince Eugene Medal, and was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Art by Finland in 1993. The series ``Bird by Toikka'' designed for Iittala is a combination of Toikka's expertise in the properties of glass and the artist's imagination.
