This ceramic plate was made in a pottery called Soholm on the island of Bornholm in Denmark. Bornholm is a Danish enclave, a small island in the Baltic Sea surrounded by Sweden, Germany and Poland. It is also called the jewel of the Baltic Sea due to its scenic beauty. Bornholm was originally an island with a thriving handicraft industry. Sioux means 'lake' and Holm means 'island'.
The designer is Joseph Simon, who was born in Hungary and studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in Austria, and has been active as a designer in Suholm since the 1960s. I am in charge of a wide variety of product designs, such as ceramic animal statues, ceramic plates, and table lamps.
This ceramic plate depicts a friendly figure of a young man and woman holding out their hands under a tree. Both of them have a slightly shy expression with downcast eyes, and the boy is dressed like a date with a bow tie. If you look closely, you can see that the two are not holding hands, but a sense of distance that is almost touching or not touching with the tree as a boundary. Is it just like a first date?
