This is a unique decorative plate produced by Lisa Larson at Keramik Studion (K-Studion), the in-house workshop established by Gustavsberg in 1993. Similar works produced around the same time as this one are featured in Lisa Larson's collection and exhibition.
Lisa Larson left Gustavsberg in 1979 to work as a freelancer, but was later welcomed back to the company with generous benefits, including an environment in which she could devote herself to her creative work.
This film was made in 1993, the year K Studios was founded. It was the year Lisa Larson turned 62, and was at the height of her maturity and the height of her global fame.
The blue flowers depicted on the surface are forget-me-nots, but I believe that the blue flowers also include anemones and nemophila. Although it is composed of three simple colors - white, blue, and yellow - the free use of different shades of glaze gives the scene a sense of transparency and depth.
Lisa Larson's works from the 1990s were different from those of the mid-20th century, a time when she was exploring new Nordic ceramics that took advantage of the advances in ceramic technology. While her earlier works tended to be relatively dark in tone, this work is particularly stunning, featuring vibrant colors never before seen. This masterpiece was created at a technically high level by Lisa Larson, who was already a world-renowned artist.
The raised area on the back is engraved with Lisa Larson's signature, along with her name, year, and studio name: "Lisa Larson -93 Keramik Studion Gustavsberg."
