Rorstrand Mon Amie Plate 24.5cm
Rorstrand Mon Amie Plate 24.5cm
Monami is the representative work of Marianne Westmann, who was the main designer of Rorstrand. Mon Amie means "lover" in French. Reprinted plates are still on sale today, but they are large and made in Indonesia. This is a 24.5cm discontinued original Swedish vintage. The back is stamped with the old quality mark of VDN, indicating that it was manufactured between 1951 and 1973.
The big difference between Monami's reprint and the original is in the base color. The reprint has a pure white background, but the original is off-white and has a calm tone. In addition, the blue is uniform and vivid in the reprint, but the original is colored by hand, so the shade is different one by one, and it has a deep ultramarine blue. The reprinted version is too white and too blue, but the vintage is expressive and you can feel the breath of the craftsman.
The back stamp is also unique. The reprinted version is "MON AMIE Marianne Westman Rörstrand", but the original is made in Sweden, so "SWEDEN" is always stamped on the stamp. It is a Northern European-made vessel about half a century ago, but the older the vessel, the more artistic and superior it is.

About Marianne Westman
Born in the Dalarna region in central Sweden, known for the Dalarna Horse. In 1950, at the age of 22, he joined Rorstrand as a designer, and until 1971, he created many designs. It is said that she was initially reluctant to work as a designer for a major pottery manufacturer. It seems that he really wanted to open his own pottery workshop in his hometown of Dalarna. However, her monami pattern quickly became a representative design of Swedish mid-century. Westman 's works are characterized by many bohemian designs that are conscious of plants and freehand drawings.
