■Product Introduction A 21cm plate manufactured by Gustavsberg, Sweden's leading pottery manufacturer. The series name Brohussard means "Blue Cavalry". Traditionally, the uniforms of Swedish cavalry soldiers are blue, the same color as the national flag, and even today, the cavalry around the Royal Palace in Stockholm, the capital, wears blue uniforms and protects the area. Brohussart incorporates the blue armor worn by cavalry into the design.

Most of Gustavsberg's tableware is decorated using a method called "transfer", which is basically pasting paper with a design on it, but this one uses hand-painted decoration, which is relatively unusual for the company. The characteristic of the Brohussard series is that each piece has a fairly uneven blue color. Sometimes the white base remains and there is not enough blue, and sometimes the glaze is crushed and it is almost completely blue.

This product was produced for only three years starting in 1968. The reason behind this seems to be that the individual differences in blue color were so great that it was difficult to make identical standard products. Even now, in the vintage market, Brohussard tends to be valued more highly if it looks beautiful.

Stig Lindberg

Stig Lindberg

Stig Lindberg (1916-1982)

Born in Umeå, the central city of northern Sweden. Originally from Stockholm's art school Konstfack ( Learn painting at Konstfack. He joined Gustavsberg in 1937 and gradually rose to prominence under the tutelage of his mentor, Wilhelm Koge. Twelve years later, in 1949, he succeeded Koge as the company's art director in charge of design.

Since then, Lindberg has released numerous works as a standard bearer of Swedish modernism in the mid-20th century. During Lindberg's time, the Gustavsberg workshop was at its peak, and its works from that time are recognized as works from the golden period known as ``mid-century,'' and are highly valued. Lindberg's studio is called G-Studion, where young designers are demonstrating their skills and producing famous artists such as Lisa Larson.
