This cake plate is part of the Pynta series, designed in 1962 by Gustavsberg, a long-established Swedish ceramics manufacturer. "Pynta" is a Swedish word meaning "decoration" or "ornament." The surface features designs of trees, radishes, wine bottles, and pencils.
The Pinta series was produced for only three years, making it a rare item among Gustavsberg's ceramic works. It is based on the "LL model," a design from the mid-20th century known as the "mid-century." LL model is the name of the original plain ceramic model, and Gustavsberg's masterpieces, such as Bersa and Prunus, were created by changing the type of transfer paper on the surface.
Like other works, Pinta was developed into a series of tableware based on the LL model, including bowls, plates, and pitchers. However, Pinta had the drawback that the vibrant colors of the surface designs were prone to fading. The reds in particular often faded, and the color that was the product's selling point could not be maintained for long. For these reasons, it is believed that sales were discontinued in a short period of time. Many of the Pinta series that remain today show signs of color fading, and there are very few in good condition.

When held up to the light, the surface of the plate shows faint cutlery marks all over. The paint, typical of Pinta, is not faded and the image is clearly visible, making it in excellent condition. There is a dent in the glaze to the right of the spoon image.

Stig Lindberg (1916-1982)
Born in Umeå, the central city of northern Sweden. Originally from Stockholm's art school Konstfack ( Learn painting at Konstfack. He joined Gustavsberg in 1937 and gradually rose to prominence under the tutelage of his mentor, Wilhelm Koge. Twelve years later, in 1949, he succeeded Koge as the company's art director in charge of design.
Since then, Lindberg has released numerous works as a standard bearer of Swedish modernism in the mid-20th century. During Lindberg's time, the Gustavsberg workshop was at its peak, and its works from that time are recognized as works from the golden period known as ``mid-century,'' and are highly valued.
