This is a legendary piece made in the 1970s by Gustavsberg, a traditional Swedish pottery manufacturer. The name of the series, Tahiti, is a tropical island in the South Pacific known as a resort destination. The designer is mid-century master Stig Lindberg.

Tahiti was designed around 1970 and released around 1971. It features colorful depictions of vibrant tropical plants. Scandinavian tableware is characterized by its vibrant designs that brighten up the dining table, in contrast to the cold winter days of Scandinavia. Tahiti truly represents the nature of Scandinavian tableware, and is a masterpiece that gives a sense of the seasons and geography that is unusual for Scandinavia. It is an exceptionally colorful piece among Gustavsberg's tableware, which is dominated by monochromatic pieces.

However, the transparent glaze on the surface is not applied properly, which means the color tends to fade easily, which is a structural flaw. I think this is especially true in Northern European dining tables, where dishwashers are often used, and has led to complaints. Perhaps due to these issues, the Tahiti series was not mass-produced and was discontinued. As a result, it has become rare in modern times. Furthermore, it is rare for pieces with good color to remain, and the value is greatly determined by the quality of the color, making it a rare piece.

There is a thin crack on the top of the handle of the cup. There are also burnt grains on the rim. The crack is a crack that runs on the glaze surface during the firing process in the manufacturing process, and is not a scratch or damage to the body itself. It has passed the manufacturer's inspection.

The cup itself does not have the discoloration that is common in Tahitian cups, and is in excellent condition with almost no signs of use. The saucer also has a slight scuff in the center, but is in excellent condition.

I did. Known for its simple and beautiful designs with motifs of nature and folklore, it is a manufacturer that led Scandinavian design in the 20th century.

It produced many outstanding artists such as Lisa Larsson and Stig Lindberg, and was a central figure in the ``Mid-Century'' art movement of the mid-20th century in Northern Europe. Even today, it is highly praised for its high artistry, technical ability, and unique design that evokes the Nordic climate.

Stig Lindberg

Stig Lindberg (1916-1982)

Born in Umeå, the central city of northern Sweden. Originally from Stockholm's art school Konstfack ( Learn painting at Konstfack. He joined Gustavsberg in 1937 and gradually rose to prominence under the tutelage of his mentor, Wilhelm Koge. Twelve years later, in 1949, he succeeded Koge as the company's art director in charge of design.

Since then, Lindberg has released numerous works as a standard bearer of Swedish modernism in the mid-20th century. During Lindberg's time, the Gustavsberg workshop was at its peak, and its works from that time are recognized as works from the golden period known as ``mid-century,'' and are highly valued. Lindberg's studio is called G-Studion, where young designers are demonstrating their skills and producing famous artists such as Lisa Larson.
