This is a one-of-a-kind ceramic tile by Rut Bryk, a master of Finnish modern art.

This ceramic piece was produced in the late 1950s, during Brueck's prime. It is a square tile-like piece, decorated with an arabesque pattern with a floral motif. A small amount of white glaze is used on the circular pattern in the central depression, and the entire piece is bisque-fired.

The artist, Rut Brück, was an artist employed by the Arabia company in the mid-20th century. At the time, there were many unique artists, such as Hilkka-Liisa Ahola and Gunval Olin Gronqvist, who mainly produced works in their studios, but Brück stood out among them.

Unlike mass-produced ceramic products, ARABIA's atelier works are unique pieces created by artists in a separate workshop within the company, who are given free rein to create them and sell them to the public.Their sales outlets are not generally accessible to the general public, but rather are distributed to acquaintances and clients, a different market from that of products normally sold in stores.

These studios closed in the 1970s, and while companies shifted to mass production, independent artists continued to produce and sell their own works, which remain to this day. The artist's signature, "BRYK," is engraved on the back.

Bruck's work has been gaining popularity in recent years, making it difficult to obtain worldwide and driving up prices. This work is well worth the price. Don't miss this opportunity to see it.

Rut Bryk (1916-1999)

A Finnish ceramic artist born in Stockholm, he initially aspired to be an architect, but his family opposed his decision, so he studied graphic design at the Helsinki Art School. After graduating in 1942, he was invited to join the art department of Arabia and began working with ceramics. Struggling with clay, an unfamiliar subject, he developed a unique tile technique that depicted everyday motifs such as birds and houses in delicate colors, earning him acclaim at the Milan Triennale.
From the late 1950s onwards, her style shifted to geometric abstract reliefs and large murals, and her colour palette evolved from the darker tones of her early period to brighter hues, black and white and pure white. She is also known for the porcelain set "Winterreise", which she co-created with her husband, the world-renowned Finnish glass designer Tapio Wirkkala. She is one of the most representative artists of the 20th century, and has left a significant mark on Finnish contemporary ceramics with her unique worldview.
