This Mon Amie creamer is a masterpiece by Marianne Westman, who was the main designer for Rörstrand, a long-established Swedish tableware manufacturer. While most creamers are round and cylindrical, this one has an unusual shape with a sharp angle towards the spout.
This item does not have the VDN mark engraved on the backstamp, which was engraved between 1951 and 1973, so it was manufactured in Sweden between 1974 and 1987, when Monami ceased production. While Monami still produces reproduction mugs and other items, they are made in Indonesia, and the creamer is no longer available for resale. This is an original vintage item.
The biggest difference between the Monami reproduction and the original is the base color. The reproduction has a pure white base, while the original has a subdued off-white color tone. Also, the blue is uniform and vivid on the reproduction, while the original is hand-painted and varies in shade from piece to piece, giving it an ultramarine-like depth. The reproduction is a mass-produced product that is too white and too blue, while the vintage piece is expressive and you can feel the breath of the artisan.
