This is an object based on Lisa Larson's figure piece, "Fisker." The Swedish title of the piece is Fiskare i båt. It captures the moment when a fisherman sinks into a small boat and reels in a net. Unlike her animal works, this piece highlights Lisa's narrative quality. The facial expression is depicted using minimal lines, but the density of the lines in the net, the fish pattern on the edge of the boat, and the way the glaze has accumulated combine to create a sense of quiet tension and warmth.

This work is known to have two color variations: brown clothing with a black hull, and blue clothing with a brown hull. This piece is the former, a combination of brown clothing with a black hull. Even among fisherman works, which are not widely distributed, this is an individual with a rarer color variation, with the sleek black hull making the shape stand out.

The amber to brown glaze on the upper body, with its varying shades of color due to firing, is reminiscent of rough seas and wet clothing. In contrast, the black of the hull tightens the impression, further highlighting the line drawings of the net and the rhythm of the fish motif. Just placing it on a shelf has such presence that it feels like a little folk tale is about to begin, making it a piece that can be cherished for a long time as a sculpture of Scandinavian lifestyle.

The bottom is stamped with LISA L, indicating that it is a Lisa Larson work.

Lisa Larson (1931-2024)

A world-renowned Swedish ceramicist, he was born in Härlunda, a village of about 500 people in the Älmhult district of Kronoberg county in the Småland region in southern Sweden.

As a child, she aspired to be a fashion designer, but after enrolling at the Gothenburg Academy of Art, she studied ceramics. One day, she was discovered by Stig Lindberg at a competition, and after a one-year probationary period, she officially joined Gustavsberg as a designer. Shortly thereafter, in 1955, she released the Lilla Zoo series, and in 1964, she came up with the Afrika series, famous for its lion statues.

Lisa Larson has not only worked for Gustavsberg, but has also provided designs for Höganäs, the major domestic retailer Åhléns, and the German ceramic manufacturer Rosenthal. After leaving Gustavsberg in 1979, she became a freelance artist, working on a voluntary basis with companies, rather than as an exclusive contractor, and continued to work freely in various fields. In 1979 and 1981, she held solo exhibitions at Seibu Department Store in Tokyo, and the 1981 exhibition was visited by a total of 70,000 people.
