This Mon Amie plate is a masterpiece by Marianne Westman, a key designer at Rörstrand. "Mon Amie" means "sweetheart" in French. Reproduction plates are still available, but they are larger and made in Indonesia. This is a 19cm, discontinued original Swedish vintage plate. It is versatile enough to be used as a cake plate or side plate. The backstamp bears the old VDN quality assurance mark, indicating that it was manufactured between 1951 and 1973.
The main difference between Mon Amie reproductions and the originals is the base color. The reproductions have a pure white base, while the originals have a more subdued off-white hue. The blue color is uniform and vibrant on the reproductions, while the originals are hand-painted, resulting in varying shades of ultramarine. While the reproductions can sometimes be too white and blue, the vintage pieces are expressive and reflect the artisan's touch. The backstamp is also distinctive: the reproductions read "MON AMIE Marianne Westman Rörstrand," while the originals, made in Sweden, always have "SWEDEN" engraved on the stamp. These pieces are Scandinavian-made, dating back about half a century, but the older they are, the more artistic and exquisite they are.

Born in the Dalarna region of central Sweden, known for Dalarna horses. In 1950, at the age of 22, he joined Rorstrand as a designer and remained there for 21 years until 1971. As the company's signboard designer, he has created numerous works and brought the masterpiece Mon Amie series to the world. Monami is a masterpiece of Scandinavian design from the mid-20th century, known as "mid-century," and is still loved around the world, with reprints still being produced . Westman's works are characterized by many designs that are conscious of plants and free-spirited patterns that appear to be drawn freehand.
