Gustavsberg Arena pitcher
Gustavsberg Arena pitcher
This is a vintage pitcher from the famous Swedish pottery manufacturer Gustavsberg. It is a rare piece with a lid.
Gustavsberg has produced famous tableware with two elements: pattern and color scheme. This product, Arena, was created by the company's representative designer Stig Lindberg, and is a dish with a simple design and vivid color scheme. Arena means "Amphitheater" in Rome, and the roundness of the plate reproduces the arena, while the vivid hand-painted orange color scheme recalls the intensity of martial arts.
Among Lindberg's tableware designed during the same period is a series called Siena, named after a town in Tuscany, Italy. Stig Lindberg moved to Italy in his later years, and this design shows how much he was interested in Italy.
Although this is an older series, manufactured from 1973 to 1978, it is a highly functional item that is heat resistant and dishwasher safe.
