■ Product Description This is a classic Bersa plate from Gustavsberg, a long-established Swedish tableware maker. Stig Lindberg created this leaf design in 1961. This is a vintage item. Bersa (besho, bell show) means arbor, and it is a space set up to take a break in a corner of a park. In Scandinavia, where there are many winter days, it is a warm design that allows you to feel the fresh greenery.

There is also a reproduction version of Versaplate, but the big difference is the lush green of the leaf stalk. The reprinted version has a lighter green color and luster than the vintage version. Another characteristic of the vintage is that the edge of the plate is raised tightly. The reprinted version has a bowl-like shape that gradually increases in height from the center to the rim. This is a 24cm size platter that is in relatively good condition and can be used for many purposes.

Manufacturer: Gustavsberg / Gustavsberg
Series: Bersa / Bertha
Designer: Stig Lindberg
Years: 1961-1974
Country of Origin: Sweden Condition: ★★★☆☆ (3.5: good product)
Fine paint loss can be seen on the leaf stalk. If you hold the light through the entire surface, you can see faint cutlery marks, but it is in a glossy state with no cracks or chips. Versa is prone to paint loss, so it is in relatively good condition among vintages. In addition, you can see the post marks (marks) caused by the manufacturing process on the hill. The unglazed parts of the rims are arranged regularly, so these are also traces of support posts during manufacturing.

About Stig Lindberg

Stig Lindberg (1916-1982)

Lindberg was born in Umeå, a central city in northern Sweden, and studied painting at the Konstfack art school in Stockholm. In 1937, he joined Gustavsberg and studied under his teacher, Wilhelm Koge, and 12 years later, in 1949, he succeeded Koge as the company's art director. Since then, Lindberg has produced numerous works as a flag bearer of Swedish modernism in the middle of the 20th century. The Gustavsberg workshop in the era when Lindberg was active has reached its heyday, and even now the works of that time are recognized as works of the golden age called "mid-century" and have high value. Lindberg's studio was called G-Studion, and young painters showed their skills. Lindberg retired in 1980 and opened a workshop in Italy where he retired, but died there two years later.
